The Pink Taco V2 is a Plexi style amp on steroids. To me, it is everything I love about the Friedman® BE-100 distilled into a single channel amp. Even after playing both amps side by side, the Pink Taco V2 stood out and blew me away. To this day, it still keeps me playing, losing track of time and getting completely immersed in inspiration and creation. I’ve played many Plexi style amps over the years, but none matched the feel, and tone of the Pink Taco V2 in my studio. My goal with this pack was simple: capture everything that makes this amp so inspiring to play: fat rock and metal tones for rhythm and lead.

Every time someone plugs into my main guitar rig in my studio, the reaction is the same:

Damn, that sounds incredible. 

The challenge was capturing that same inspiring tone through microphones while staying as close as possible to the actual sound in the room. For this pack, I completely rebuilt my custom guitar cabinet, expanded my microphone collection, refined my profiling process, and spent countless hours experimenting with different speakers, microphones, mic combinations, mic placement, and phase alignment. My goal was simple: capture the sound I hear in the room so I could take it on the road and use it in my studio productions. I’ve ended up using two classic speakers: the Celestion® Greenback 25 and Celestion® Vintage 30.

A huge part of that journey was working with Conny Schattka, our front of house engineer for my band U.D.O. & DIRKSCHNEIDER. His technical approach, years of experience, and attention to detail helped me make this Kemper pack the best I’ve created so far.

Every Studio, DI, and Merged Profile was captured from the exact same amp settings. The Merged Profiles use Impulse Responses (IRs) created from the identical cabinet and microphone setup as the Studio Profiles, giving you the closest possible match between your stage cabinet and the sound sent to FOH.

The profile names tell you all about the settings of the amp, they will look something like this: PINK PLEXI 3+ SF 30

Let´s break this down:

1 = Low Gain

2 = Medium Gain

3 = Higher Gain

+ = SD Booster enabled (Booster Settings: Level: 5.5 Tone: 5 Drive: 4 Gain)

S = SAT Switch ON

F = FAT Switch ON

(5) Speaker

DI = Direct Amp Profile (no speaker cabinet)

30 = Vintage 30

25 = Greenback 25

M25/M30 = Merged Profile with the Greenback or V30 speaker, created from the matching DI Profile and the exact matching IR. Ideal for use with a real power amp and guitar cabinet on stage while sending the IR to the FOH/PA.

All profiles were captured using two Shure© SM57 and a Royer© R-121.
Every sound has its own optimized mic position and mic balance. Only high-end equipment was used in order to create the profiles.

All sounds include the effects I personally use in the Kemper©.
In most cases, a Pure Booster is placed in front of the amp to increase input level without altering the core tone. I prefer this over simply increasing amp gain because it keeps the tone more natural.

Where appropriate, you will also find a noise gate and phaser.

All profiles feature my personal effect settings, including EQ, delay, reverb, booster, and more, and are dialed in to match my personal tones.

These sounds were matched using a Telecaster, Stratocaster and Les Paul and translate well across different guitars.

These are Kemper® profile files. A Kemper® Profiler (MK1, MK2, or Player) is required. No audio files, impulse responses, or plugin versions are included.

But Dee, how is this different from the Friedman in your Signature Pack?

Great question! My Signature Pack only offered Studio Profiles, because that’s what I use 99% of the time. However, I got a lot of messages asking for DI and Merged Profiles, as well as Liquid Profiles, so I heard you!
With the Pink Plexi Pack, I created DI, Merged and Studio Profiles, and all of them are Liquid Profiles.
The idea was to capture everything this amp has to offer, rather than just the sounds I created for myself, like in my Signature Pack.

The biggest change, I’d say, is that I rebuilt my custom guitar cab and added an air chamber to this massive cab. I also experimented with different materials inside to shape the reflections.
On top of that, I bought new speakers and new mics, experimented with different mic combinations and placements, and tried some new mixing techniques. It made such a massive difference to the sound that, it feels like a completely new cab, a freaking good sounding one! I can definitely say that I still love my Signature Pack, but the Pink Plexi Pack turned out so good that these might actually be my favorite profiles I’ve created so far.
