The Marshall® 1987X is a loud, raw 50W Plexi with no Master Volume (damn that amp is loud!), delivering that classic British sound. I captured its sweet spot across 3 different gain stages, pushing the amp hard to capture the natural saturation, dynamics, and powerful Plexi character it is known for. Notice how the tone and gain evolve as you push the Volume knob of the amp. A lower Volume (H1) gives you less gain and more high-end. When pushing the volume, the amp doesn’t get really louder, but offers more gain and bass while rolling off the top end. I found three positions that really let this amp shine and added an old Ibanez® TS808 Tube Screamer from the 80s to boost the amp. The TS808 and the 1987X work like a charm together.

PRODUCT DETAILS
All profiles were captured using two Shure© SM57 and a Royer© R-121. Every sound has its own optimized mic position and mic balance. Only high-end equipment was used in order to create the profiles.
These are NEURAL AMP MODELER® (NAM) files. You’ll need compatible software or hardware to use them. A free option is the TONE3000 app. NAM is also supported by hardware and software such as HeadRush® and Two Notes® GENOME, with compatibility depending on the specific device and NAM architecture supported.
