The Marshall® 1987X is a loud, raw 50W Plexi with no Master Volume (damn that amp is loud!), delivering that classic British sound. I captured its sweet spot across 3 different gain stages, pushing the amp hard to capture the natural saturation, dynamics, and powerful Plexi character it is known for. Notice how the tone and gain evolve as you push the Volume knob of the amp. A lower Volume (H1) gives you less gain and more high-end. When pushing the volume, the amp doesn’t get really louder, but offers more gain and bass while rolling off the top end. I found three positions that really let this amp shine and added an old Ibanez® TS808 Tube Screamer from the 80s to boost the amp. The TS808 and the 1987X work like a charm together.

It´s my beloved Ibanez® TS808 from the 80s. They are a great match!

PRODUCT DETAILS
All profiles were captured using two Shure© SM57 and a Royer© R-121.
Every sound has its own optimized mic position and mic balance. Only high-end equipment was used in order to create the profiles.
These are Kemper® profile files. You will need a Kemper® to use those profiles – any Kemper® will work (Head, Rack, Stage, Player, MK1/MK2). No audio files, impulse responses, or plugin versions are included.

I personally wouldn’t use the studio profiles. Certainly not without a lot of tweaking in the amp and eq settings. I find them to be quite thin, and too bright and aggressive but, the DI profiles paired with some of my favourite IR’s are a different story. I’ll definitely be using the DI profiles. I can see full-on metal players having a use for the studio profiles, but that’s not me. My tone of choice lies more in the Classic Rock ballpark.

Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, there are actually no traditional Studio Profiles in this pack. All profiles are Merged Profiles with the selected IRs, and you can of course swap the cabs for your own favourites.
The manual also includes some tips for shaping the tone. If you want a more aggressive sound, you can push Definition and Presence or turn both down to get it less agressive.. If you find the tone too thin, increasing the Bass Resonance can add more body. Since all profiles are Liquid, you can also tweak the amp settings quite extensively. That´s the beauty about liquid profiles.
I tested the profiles with different guitars, including Les Paul, Strat and Tele, and the tones in the pack are the same ones you hear in the video. That said, Kemper profiles can definitely be guitar-dependent. Some guitars and pickups simply work better with certain profiles than others.
The IRs I chose were specifically selected to work well with all three types of guitars and to give a fat, full sound. Of course it´s always up to taste and depends on the guitar/pickup selection.
